Nude Walks Vic

The walks are run in various locations throughout the Victorian countryside, usually within a short drive of Melbourne and are open to all adults, both male and female, who are open to the idea of enjoying nudity in a countryside setting in a safe, non-threatening and comfortable environment. Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted.

Some of the walks are for men only and others are mixed.
The walks are advertised by mailing list only. If you wish to be added to the mailing list, please fill in the contact form.

About

The walks are held within 1 – 1½ hours drive from Melbourne. We try to find remote areas which are interesting and have some challenge. The walks range in difficulty from easy to medium to hard.
Men’s events tend to attract between 15 – 22 participants, mixed attracting 25 – 30 participants.
The mixed group particularly like to go for a nude swim towards the end of the walk, so we endeavour to find a pleasant swimming hole to cool off and relax.
Walks always commence with an advertised meeting place, usually at a café nearby, where we can have coffee/snacks, meet everybody and register for the walk.
From there we carpool and convoy to the start of the walk. Lunch, drinks and snacks are carried on the walk in day packs. We try to make the walks circuit walks, so that we walk to our destination by one route and return to the starting point by another route, to make the walks as interesting as possible. To recover at the end of the walk we often stop at a local hotel for drinks, coffee and nibbles.
The leader carries a basic first aid kit with snake-bite and sprain bandage and band-aids, and antiseptic. If you have any specific medical requirements, you must provide those yourself.
At time of registering you must inform of any medical issues and provide an emergency contact.

NUDITY

It is not illegal to be nude in public in Victoria. The only section in the law which talks about nudity in public is section 66 of the summary offences act which states: “You must not deliberately and obscenely expose your genitals in view of the public.”
We do our best to avoid the public and as long as we avoid obscenity we feel we are compliant by the law.
We carry shorts or sarongs in the unlikely event of coming across textile (clothed) people. If necessary, we can don some apparel if we see other walkers down the track.

HISTORY

NudeWalksVic originated in 2002 when Gay Nude Victoria (GNV) was trying to find some new and novel events for their members. CNV enlisted the help of Tyrone Thomas, one of Australia’s most prolific writers of books describing bush walks throughout Australia.

For the first nude bush walk, Tyrone chose the then remote Brisbane Ranges, west of Melbourne, with a starting point at Boar Gully (Boar Gully is now very popular with campers and no longer suitable for such events).
Only a few walks were held with the GNV group, which then closed down because of insurance problems. Tyrone then ran the nude walks through the Nomads outdoors group for about four years, holding 3-4 walks a year for the men in that group.

In about 2005 Tyrone had to review his bushwalking books and had no time to run nude walks. Russell Watson took over with the help of Peter Heaney. Russell has had extensive experience in hiking and cross country skiing throughout most of Victoria since 1975.

Russell is also fortunate to have had good navigational training through the Victorian Orienteering Association (VOA) which has enabled him to modify many of Tyrone’s walks to diminish the likelihood of running into clothed members of the public. Peter Heaney was a Queens Scout and has good outdoor experience.
